Adaptable Transaction Consistency for Mobile Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
Consistency criteria adopted for the transactional management of shared objects define the degree of allowable interleaving between concurrent transactions. This paper presents an application aware adaptable framework for mobile environments that uses an adaptable Quality of Service specification. The utility of such a specification is illustrated by the use of an adaptable transaction consistency criterion for mobile environments.1

Defining an Adaptable Mobile Transaction Service
Mobile environments are characterized by frequent variations in connection and bandwidth rates as well as by restrained resources on portable devices. This variability complicates data management and in particular, transaction execution. We consider that to deal with environment variability it is necessary to be adaptable. This paper proposes both a Mobile Transaction Service (MTS) and an Adapt...
متن کاملAn Adaptable Mobile Transaction Model
Mobile environments are characterized by high variability (e.g. variable bandwidth, disconnections, different communication prices) as well as by limited mobile host resources. Such characteristics lead to high rates of transaction failures and variable execution costs. To raise the success rate of transactions and to have a minimal control on resources consumption we claim that both applicatio...
متن کاملMaintaining Data Consistency Using Timestamp Ordering in Real-Time Broadcast Environments
The broadcast-based data dissemination in wireless environments poses new challenging issues on data consistency of transaction processing. In this paper, we first adapt the optimistic concurrency control with forward validation to the broadcast environments. The adapted protocol gives autonomy between the mobile clients and the server such that the mobile clients can read consistent data off t...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Transaction Processing in Mobile Data Base Systems
Specific characteristics of mobile environments make traditional transaction management techniques no longer appropriate. This is due the fact that the ACID properties of transactions are not simply followed, in particular the consistency property. Thus, transaction management models adopting weaker form of consistency are needed and these models can now tolerate a limited amount of consistency...
متن کاملFramework for Transaction Execution Strategies in Mobile Data Base Systems
Manuscript received November 20, 2012; revised January 10, 2013 Abstract—As technological advances are made in software and hardware, the feasibility of accessing information "any time, anywhere" is becoming a reality. In a mobile computing environment, a potentially large number of mobile and fixed users may simultaneously access shared data; therefore, there is a need to provide a means to al...
